Name: Laura Bateman
Job Title: Social media marketing manager, In house makeup and beauty expert.
Life Motto: Embrace the Journey
- What is your greatest life achievement?
Raising my daughter Esme. We spent around five years just me and her and have such a good bond. I’m so proud of the little lady she has become.
2. What is your favourite part of hairdressing?
I’ve never done hairdressing but I’d love to be able to do hair! I’d love to be able to style my hair in perfect waves or do a beautiful fishtail.Hopefully working at Victoria Hutchinson & Co I’ll manage to pick up some tips!
3. What do you like about working at Victoria Hutchinson & CO?
I love working with strong, confident women and when everyone is in the salon there is such a great atmosphere. I get inspired by how hard Victoria works and what she has already achieved.
4. What are the values that drive you?
My parents, especially my Dad, have instilled in me a strong work ethic and I think it’s important to try your best in everything you do. He also teaches me to get the most out of life so I also think it’s really important to surround yourself with positive people and do the things that make you happy.
5. What do you hate most about your hair?
I can never decide what to do with the front of my hair and always switch up between a fringe and no fringe. I would absolutely love it to be longer but I always get bored and want to change in again before it gets to the length I’d love. Luckily I’ve booked in with Victoria for some extensions and I cannot wait to have more length and volume.
6. What do you love most about your hair?
I do love that my hair is fairly thick and healthy and I really like the colour. Charlotte at Victoria Hutchinson & Co did my balayage and it’s blended perfectly.
7. What is your most embarrassing moment?
When shopping at a retail park recently I went to get out of the passenger seat and realised I had got my foot wrapped around the handle of my handbag. There was nothing I could do to recover and, in slow motion, fell backwards and lay awkwardly on the car park. A lady came to see if I was ok which was lovely of her but made it even more mortifying!
8. Why and how did you get into hairdressing?
I have never done hairdressing but love working in a salon environment. As well as the social media and helping round the salon I am also a makeup artist and beauty specialist so everything hair and beauty I love. Bridal makeup is my passion as I love being part of a bride’s special day and making her look and feel a million dollars. I trained at East Midlands College of Health and Beauty in Level 2 and Level 3 and loved learning new things every day.
9. Who inspires you?
There are loads of people that inspire me, in different fields and for different reasons. I love strong women and strong characters like Lady Gaga. She isn’t afraid to be exactly who she is and is so musically talented and creative. Emma Watson also inspires me because she uses her platform to do incredible things, like being a UN Ambassador.
10. What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I am a secret musician and can play piano and read music. It’s my mission this year to get a piano again and polish up my skills. I also have super hero reflexes. Seriously!
11. What is your hairdressing style?
As a busy woman and a mum I often go for the mum bun, but when I go out I love to do a soft wave and can’t wait to get styling my new extensions (keep an eye out for my blog post!).
12. Your top 3 favourite Podcasts/Books?
I love Jojo Moyes books although I don’t get to read fiction as often as I’d like to. My Dad has just bought me Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People and I’m finding it really motivating and interesting. When I do get chance to listen to a podcast I either go for a comedy one like Rosie and Chris Ramsey’s or True Crime for a bit of gruesomeness in a morning!
